Healthier & happier with nearly 3 stone loss

At 13 stone 2lbs with a BMI of 29 Margaret was having significant health problems due to her weight and a severe pain in her knee had caused her specialist to schedule a knee replacement. She was also disappointed with herself in photos and lacked the energy needed to enjoy spending active time with her grandchildren. Eventually her concerns caused her to sign up to our online dieting site and just under a year later she has lost 2 stone 12bls, has a healthy BMI of 23 and no longer has knee problems.


Here is Margaret’s story…


What diet plan did you follow? I have switched from the Low Gi to the High-fibre plan.


Have you previously tried any other diets and were they successful? I have tried calorie counting, and no it was not successful.


What part has exercise played in helping you to lose weight? After I started to lose the weight I began to walk more and more. I now make sure I do as close to 10000 steps a day as I can manage.


Was your weight causing you any problems? When I was at my heaviest I had considerable pain in my left knee. After seeing a specialist I was told that I would need a replacement knee within two years. However, since losing the weight the pain in my knee has almost gone and I am hoping that when I next see my specialist the operation will be postponed indefinitely.


What difference has losing weight made to you? I enjoy shopping for clothes much more now then before and feel that there is a wider choice of styles to suit me. Losing weight has improved my self-confidence and I don’t feel that everyone is staring at me when I walk in a room. I have a lot more energy and enjoy taking my grandchildren out on day trips. When walking my dogs with friends I no longer find that I am puffing and wheezing to keep up.


What did you think of our service overall? The thing I found most useful was the ability to swap and change individual meals, and to be able to swap to a different plan. The dining out choices were also very useful and the e-mail feedback was always very encouraging and motivating.


Tell us about your diet before you joined us, and how has your diet changed as a result? Before I started the diet I was forever picking at unhealthy foods between meals. With your diet plans it is easy to add in a few treats and still stay within your limit.


How have your family and friends reacted to your weight loss? Everyone has been really supportive and it is a big boost to hear all the favourable comments. I think my 6 year old grandson Jack said it all when he asked his Mum “How come Grandma can run now?”


Any other comments you would like to give? The diet plans have changed my life! I know that I will never put that weight on again. I am much healthier, happier and confident. I don’t feel that I have been on a diet, it has been more like a lesson in healthy eating.
