After going through the trauma of losing her husband, Carole decided it was time she addressed her own health issues. She wanted to live her life to the fullest and she was acutely aware that losing weight and regaining her confidence were fundamental to improving her quality of life. In just 7 months Carole lost 2 stone 10 lbs and for the past 10 months she has managed to maintain that loss!


Carole tells us her story…


Have you previously tried any other diets?

I’ve been on diets for most of my married life. I didn’t reach my goal with any of them.


Why did you decide to join us?

My husband died not long after we moved to Spain. I realised I’d have to make an effort to get my weight down to remain healthy now I was on my own. Moving to Spain meant that class-based diets weren’t available to me. The Cholesterol Lowering diet has been the easiest I ever tried.


How has your diet changed as a result of the plans?

I used to swing between healthy eating and stuffing myself. My late husband had several health problems but was very stubborn about what he would eat, so I tried to cater for his needs while eating healthily myself. Needless to say it didn’t work! There were always crisps and biscuits and other calorific foods in the house which I found hard to resist. Since joining the plan I don’t buy those tempting items. I do eat out a couple of times a week but try to make sensible choices – I don’t want to stop doing that, after all the Spanish way of life always involves a knife, fork and a glass.


Was your weight causing you any problems?

Finding clothes in styles I liked and in my size has always been a problem, especially here in Spain. I didn’t feel as healthy or fit as I should have and I was conscious that I needed to tackle this once and for all.


What difference has losing weight made to you?

A lot! I made a new life for myself after my husband passed, but losing weight has really made a difference. Apart from the compliments I get from friends I feel more confident about being on my own. I like being able to buy clothes in ridiculous Spanish sizes! And I like having the energy to do what I want to do!


What were your favourite parts of the service?

The best things were the diet plans and the shopping list. I found the shopping list extremely helpful and it reduced my grocery bill.


Have you any other tips or comments you would like to give?

One of the most quoted, and most ignored tips is that you must do this for yourself – not a special occasion or to get ready for a holiday. That puts the pressure on immediately. Losing weight is a long term thing and if you fail to lose enough to satisfy you for that wedding or holiday it will knock your confidence and set you back.
