At 59 years of age Eeva’s lagging energy levels had more to do with her excess weight than her age. With a BMI of 33 and weighing 15 stone Eeva thought of herself as “ugly and fat”. With her sixtieth birthday party fast approaching she wanted a change so she joined up to our online dieting site and 9 months later she has become a slim sixty weighing in at 11 stone 8lbs.
Here is Eeva’s story…
What diet plan did you follow?
The Gi plan.
What part has exercise played in helping you to lose weight? My husband and I had previously enjoyed long walks on Sundays but we stopped because I did not find it very easy due to my increasing weight. But, as I began to lose weight with the Gi plan I regained my interest in exercise and we have started our walks again which I enjoy tremendously. I also use Wii fit regularly.
Was your weight causing you any problems? I used to hate the way I looked and I could never find any nice clothes to buy. We often go on holidays and I was dreading the time I would not fit into the aeroplane seat any longer.
What difference has losing weight made to you? It is brilliant to be so much smaller. I used to think that I felt so unfit because of my age but I was wrong as it was all to do with my excess weight. I feel like a new person. I feel years younger and have a new lease of life! I can buy the clothes I want and don’t look frumpy any longer. I also feel a lot more confident at work.
What did you think of our online dieting site? The service is great. I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was. It was great to be able to change my meals and as the database is so large it was easy for me to find foods that I like. I also discovered Tesco Light Choices ready meals. They are so handy to have as you come home from work. The great thing is that you can eat anything as long as it fits into your daily calorie allowance. I am even allowed to have wine!!
Tell us about your diet before you joined us, and how has your diet changed as a result? I used to eat a lot of sweet things, like sweets and cakes. I would go for second helpings even if I was no longer hungry and I did not really taste my food at all. Now, I only have cake on special occasions and it tastes a lot better when I do. I eat very healthily now. For example, I have given up white bread and eat only brown. I eat a lot more fruit and vegetables than I used to and I have a few small meals during the day which helps control my hunger.
How have your family and friends reacted to your weight loss? My husband and my adult children have been very supportive and have wanted to know each week how much weight I have lost.
Finally, do you have any tips you would like to share with fellow dieters out there?
It is good to include plenty of free vegetables as they give your portions extra bulk. Sometimes my platefuls look bigger than what others are having!
